I got just a bit of this on the radio as I was driving so you will have to forgive me if it is skimpy. There was this guy out hunting hogs. For some reason or other he was down on his hands and knees in the brush, doing something or other. Then there was a woman, also hunting, using an IR scope. She misidentified the other guy as a hog. You can guess what happened.
Mistaken target is dead. Shooter is severely broken up (though probably not as much as the dead guy) but is not facing any charges.

What was he doing on his hands and knees?
An IR scope is not, generally speaking, good for target identification. Location, yes. Not identification. That is, to my mind, pretty much the same thing as shooting at a movement in the brush.
