LIMITED INFORMATION LEADS TO HARD FEELINGS

by Bob Walsh

There are a limited number of players in this morality play, but the manner in which information is being doled out or restricted is causing people's stink-o-meter to peg out. With justification.

Abel Enriques Esquival Jr., 23, of San Francisco is dead. He was murdered last month in the People's Republic of San Francisco. SFPD Officer Marvin Cabuntala is also involved in that his gun, stolen from his car, was used in this murder (and probably a few robberies too). The killers are currently in custody.

The PD is, thus far, totally refusing to provide ANY information about the gun theft. Where was the car parked? Was it broken into or left unlocked? Was the gun secured in a now-legally mandated security box affixed to the vehicle? How is it the officer was not aware the gun was missing until after the shooting. Was the 38 revolver recovered from the alleged murderers? (I assume the gun was recovered or they would not know who it belonged to but it is barely possible three was a fired slug on record.)

Written SFPD policy says, among other things, that weapons should not be left in unattended vehicles if at all possible and should never be left in vehicles over night.

Within the last year or so three murders in S.F. have been traced to guns stolen from law enforcement officer's cars.

An internal affairs investigation is under way into the matter.
