It was freezing weather in the New York Mets ballpark, but Canadian and European hockey players joined the Americans in removing their stocking caps and standing while the Star Spangled Banner was performed by a children’s choir
On New Year’s Day the Buffalo Sabers and New York Rangers played in the NHL’s Winter Classic game in the New York Mets ballpark. The 20-degree temperature with a strong wind blowing did not keep the players from removing their stocking caps and standing while a children’s choir sang the Star Spangled Banner before the start of the game.
No big deal, you say? Well, it so happens that most of the players were Canadians and Europeans. Compare that to the disgraceful display by African-American NFL players who refused to stand for our National Anthem.
When Russian hockey players show respect for our flag and country while NFL players refuse to do so, it just goes to show how low the NFL has sunk.
For those interested, this Winter Classic game was played before 41,000 hockey fans and the Rangers won 3-2 in overtime.
Three cheers or more for the NHL whose players always stand for our national anthem even though most of them are foreign nationals.
