The honeymoon between Trump and Putin is over and both are in court for a bitter divorce
President Trump has accused the Russians of violating the treaty signed by Reagan and Gorbachev in 1987 that would keep intermediate range missiles out of Europe. On Friday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the U.S. was pulling out of the treaty.
Putin responded by denying Russia had violated the treaty and declaring that he was now also pulling out of it. He accused Trump of being too ‘immature’ for ‘meaningful’ talks. Here is what Putin said:
“Our American partners have announced they are suspending their participation in the deal, and we are also suspending our participation. We will wait until our partners have matured enough to conduct an equal, meaningful dialogue with us on this important topic.”
Putin also said Russia will develop new missiles, including supersonic ones. Hot diggity dog, the arms race is back on. This will result in thousands more Americans being hired by our defense industry. Thank you Vlad.
The honeymoon between Trump and Putin is over and the Cold War is back.
