As Israel seems set to implode, at least one general says the armies of the Muslim world stand ready to invade. Will it really come to that?

The horror scenario: When Israel falls into a deep constitutional crisis from which there is no way out. If the legislative process of judicial reform continues without compromise, where there is broad agreement, we will soon come to the second and third readings of the new laws. Unilateral judicial reform will throw Israel into chaos.
It can be assumed that the Supreme Court will reject the new legislation and the State of Israel will fall into a deep constitutional crisis from that moment. All national security forces responsible for the welfare of Israeli citizens, such as the IDF, the Shin Bet security agency, the Mossad intelligence agency and the police, must choose who to obey: the Supreme Court, or the government. It’s a horror scenario that everyone in the country fears.
Each soldier, policeman and agent will have to choose who to obey, the court or the national religious government. This was the warning voiced by former Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman, as well as by Defense Minister Yoav Galant and Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai. Israel’s security organs will remain apolitical to the best of their ability, which means they will obey the rule of law, just as they have for the past 75 years. “Nobody will scare us, the police will continue to remain apolitical,” the police commissioner responded to a speech by Likud lawmaker Dudu Amsalem yesterday. “The day is not far off when a state commission of inquiry will be set up and you will all be charged,” Amsalem had said in a direct threat to the police.
“If the [judicial reform] law is invalidated by the Supreme Court, I will respect the court’s ruling to avoid chaos,” Economy Minister Nir Barkat said today. The Likud is divided on how the party should proceed if the Supreme Court rejects the government’s new legislation. “I in no way support blind handling of a constitutional crisis, I will not support national chaos with my voice and my hand,” emphasized the Minister of Economic Affairs.
This after Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who is in charge of the judicial reform, said: “The Likud will not accept the Supreme Court’s rejection of the draft law, and will find ways to diversify the election of judges for the benefit of the citizens of Israel. As someone who defended the land of Israel and lost commanders and soldiers, I promise you I will stop the civil war and the disintegration of Israel.” The Likud is divided internally over who it will ultimately obey, theirs own government or the law.
Experts predict that there will be a split and dissolution within the army, police, Shin Bet and Mossad. In all organs orders are refused. Already today, even before we stand at the edge of the cliff, we are witnessing an increasing number of reservists who say they will refuse to serve. There is also no doubt that no-holds-barred judicial reform will have an impact on Israel’s conscripted soldiers. The right-wing officers and soldiers will obey their government, while others will say they are following the rule of law as directed by the General Staff. This is a proven recipe for the collapse of all security organizations. Israel’s citizens will suddenly lose their self-confidence and their ability to defend Eretz Israel. The collapse of the Israeli security forces will result in the collapse of the entire people, because Israel is a people’s army.
For Israel’s enemies, this is like a dream. Israel plunges into the abyss, all without rocket attacks. “Israel’s enemies are rubbing their hands with joy and they will attack as soon as the State of Israel loses its ability to defend itself,” said former General Yitzhak Brick. “The Arab enemies will attack Israel on five fronts, including infantry troops that will breach Israel’s borders to the north, south and east, armed with rockets, anti-tank missiles and artillery from Lebanon, Syria and the Gaza Strip. At the same time, serious unrest will erupt in the country with thousands of armed Jewish rioters, as will a third Intifada in Judea and Samaria. Under certain conditions, Iran can also take part in the last war.”
If we can’t find a way to implement judicial reform with consensus and cooperation, then this scenario will most likely occur to Israel. We are following the classic script of self-destruction. Many politicians, judges and officers are already warning of the downfall of the “third temple.” There are two underlying reasons for all this: First, unnecessary civil strife, which in Jewish history led to the destruction of the first and second temples. And second, because of Israel’s arrogant politicians, right and left. Their personal and partisan interests trump the national interests of the Jewish people at large. Each party is constrained by ego, and no one is really trying to save the people from self-destruction.
