NYC COUNCIL MEMBER BUSTED ON GUN CHARGE

No, it isn't quite what you think.  City councilwoman Inna Vernikov, a Republican, a Ukrainian by birth a member of the city council, had a valid carry permit.  However, with all the "except not here" wording written into the current NY law about the only place you can actually carry a gun is on the public street in front of your own house, if you are not too close to a "sensitive area."

She wore her gun to a pro-Palestinian rally.  She is not pro-Palestinian, she just wanted to check out the action and wanted to be able to protect herself should the need arise.  A political rally is among those "sensitive areas" that are prohibited.  (Also she just had her pistol shoved into the waistband of her pants.  Can't she afford a freaking holster?)

Her office posted a picture of herself at the rally.  She was denouncing those who participated in the rally (as opposed to sight-seers like herself I guess.)

In any event the cops called her on the gun, which I guess was visible if you chose to look carefully.  She showed up at a police station in Brooklyn with her attorney, her pistol and her pistol permit.  She turned in the gun and permit pending investigation.  The "standards and ethics committee" of the city council is also looking into it.

She is a Republican and a gun owner so I am certain the ethics committee will do it's best to fuck her over.  Considering the NYPD attitude about armed private citizens she may get some administrative grief there too.
