Rescuers frantically tried to save a skier trapped under
a massive avalanche in Palisades Tahoe
Last year Squaw Mountain ski resort changed it's name to
Palisades Tahoe. They were afraid the old name was offensive to Native
Americans. Plus they are angling for an upcoming Winter Olympics
reprise so they wanted to be warm and fuzzy.
The
brand new, shiny ski lift opened today. A bunch of people were there
to get in early. A significant avalanche broke off 4-5 feet off the
edge of the bowl all around, dumping a shitload of snow onto a bunch of
people in the bowl. There is a major S&R operation under way right
now.
I hesitate to suggest that the God of the Mountain was pissed about the name change, but......

It's not the 1st time for Squaw Valley to have a avalanche.
