FEDERAL JUDGE ALLOWS JEWISH STUDENT GROUPS TO SUE

Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA

The Brandies Center has filed a suit on behalf of Jewish students at UCLA against the National Students for Justice in Palestine and the People's City Council.  Two weeks ago the federal court ruled to allow it to proceed.

Judge Mark Scarsi of the United States District Court for the Central Disctrict of California ruled that the plaintiff's allegations are plausible and that these groups seem to have acted at least in part to deprive the plaintiff's of their rights under the 13th Amendment.

The groups are, thus far, claiming First Amendment protection.  The First Amendment does not, as far as I can tell, allow people to conspire to deprive other people of their civil rights by use of force, violence and intimidation.  They also denied they were directly involved in the "encampments" at UCLA.

This legal action is NOT targeting the university itself.  The lawsuit has been in the pipeline about ten months.
