CA state senator Tony Strickland
has proposed that the state of CA stop charging a gasoline tax for one
year and knock off the twice-yearly legally mandated fuel mixture change
for one year. It is believed that this would drop the cost of gasoline
in CA about $1 per gallon pretty much instantly. The legislative
proposal is written as an emergency bill which would take effect
immediately upon being passed into law.
IMHO
it has essentially zero chance of going anywhere and pretty much the
same chance of being signed into law if it makes it to the governor's
desk. Of course it the price of gas balloons quickly enough that the
Democrats in the legislature sweat their re-elections and if Newsom
thinks that signing it might help his presidential aspirations, then
maybe......
