HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN

By Bob Walsh

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor leaves Aylsham Police Station after he was released from custody on Thursday

Andrew is pictured in the back of a police car following his arrest on Thursday morning

Andrew Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, was actually taken into custody today by police in the U.K. on the Sandringham royal estate.  He is accused of misconduct in public office.  Allegedly Andrew funneled confidential information to Jeffrey Epstein while Andrew was a member of an official trade delegation.

This was the first time a member of the royal family (though he might not be entitled to that designation strictly speaking) has actually been taken into custody in almost 500 years and that was exactly a police action.

That should read "wasn't exactly." My bad. Reference was to Charles I, who was executed for being on the wrong side of history.

Is Andrew is still number 8 for the Throne? Google: Yes, as of February 2026, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly the Duke of York) remains in the line of succession to the British throne, technically holding the eighth position. Despite being stripped of his royal titles, HRH style, and military affiliations, he remains in the line because removing him requires specific, complex legislation from Parliament.
