I would never recommend a law enforcement career for anyone. The career places a heavy burden on officers and their families. This month my son will be retiring from police work. I'm proud that he served his country in Iraq then came home to serve in law enforcement. He's done his time and will receive a good retirement. President George W. Bush signed the LEOSA Act in 2004. Most retired police officers including Coast Guard Boarding Officers and career Military Police can legally carry a firearm as long as their agency issues them an annual ID with their firearms qualification date. Texas will also keep their TCOLE license intact with up to date mandated courses. By law LEOSA must be honored in all 50 states. One state arrested a retired visiting officer for carrying his firearm. That left leaning state later paid a handsome amount to the retired officer.
