COPS CAN’T TAKE A JOKE

I can understand why the cops are upset, but file criminal charges against the pranksters? No way Jose! A royal ass-chewing should suffice.

A suspected abduction caught on surveillance camera which showed a woman being bundled into the trunk of a car was actually a hoax inspired by the Jackass TV show, police said today.

Detectives in Syracuse, New York, issued an urgent appeal yesterday for information about the 'suspicious incident' in a supermarket parking lot.

The two-minute incident, which they said looked like an abduction, occurred at 10.48pm on Monday at the Price Chopper store on Erie Boulevard East.

In the footage, a dark-coloured car drives at speed into a parking space. A man gets out, opens the rear door, pulls a woman out and puts her in the trunk before driving off.

In his appeal, Detective George C. Hack said the woman appears to be unconscious.

'She is not in control of herself,' Hack said. 'She’s not fighting. She may be intoxicated, she may be drugged.'

One female witness pleaded with the 'kidnapper' to stop, he said. He responded, but police would not reveal what he said.

Police had stopped short of calling it an abduction as they were puzzled why the 'suspect' had chosen a crowded, well-lit car park to carry out the crime. But officers said they couldn't take any chances.

'It's the type of incident that we don't take lightly,' he said. 'We had to check on the welfare of that person.'

After the incident was made public, three teenagers — a 17-year-old male, 16-year-old female and another female described as a juvenile — came forward to confess to the prank at the behest of their families.

Syracuse Police Sgt Tom Connellan described the stunt as 'incredibly stupid' and said it had taken vital resources away from homicide investigations and a string of thefts over that period.

He said any charges laid against the teens would be determined today.
