Two Houston women cops, responding to an assault report on Monday, saw a man walking away from the scene. They ordered him to stop and put his hands up. The women claimed they barked their commands in both English and Spanish. They noticed he kept one of his hands tucked under his shirt. Suddenly he turned around with his hand still under his shirt. Fearing that he was about to pull out a gun, Officer J. McGowan, drew her gun and fired once, striking Rufino Lara in the chest and killing him. Rufino’s beer can was no match for McGowan’s pistol.
Lara’s relatives claim he did not speak English. Two witnesses have come forward to claim that the two women cops gave their commands in English only and that Lara had both of his hands up when he turned around.
The moral of this story is, don't try to conceal a beer can from a cop, especially a woman cop!
