Correctional officer intentionally got herself knocked-up by imprisoned cop killer in a plot to keep him from being resentenced to death
Ronell Wilson was sentenced to death in 2007 for shooting dead two NYPD undercover officers during a 2003 illegal weapons investigation. An appeals court overturned that sentence on a technicality. Wilson was resentenced to death last September.
While awaiting his resentencing trial, Wilson was locked up in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. Nancy Gonzalez, 30, one of the correctional officers at the federal lockup, became romantically involved with the cop killer. They came up with a plot to save him from the death penalty. Wilson would knock-up Gonzalez because they hoped that as the father of a newborn he would be spared another death sentence.
Justus, Wilson and Gonzalez’s child, was born March 21, 2013. Unfortunately for both, the plot didn’t work as the cop killer was resentenced to death. But the plot really backfired on Gonzalez. She lost both her job and Justus. The child was taken away from her because she was deemed an unfit parent for driving drunk with Justus in the car and for being a drug addict.
Monday’s scheduled sentencing for her jailhouse sexual relationship with Wilson has been postponed while prosecutors and her lawyer prepare arguments over whether or not Gonzalez will be required to register as a sex offender.
Gonzalez faces from 10-16 months in prison. Her lawyer has asked a Brooklyn federal judge to give Gonzalez probation. He pleaded for leniency because – yes, here it comes - Gonzalez was sexually abused as a child and later in the military, leading her to engage in destructive sexual relationships “to cope with stress and anxiety.”
Please excuse me while I get a towel to mop up my tears. Poor Nancy is just another victim of a troubled and abused childhood.
