CA EARTHQUAKE WARNING SYSTEM ABOUT TO GO ACTIVE

by Bob Walsh

The formerly great state of California has been working on an earth quake warning system for years. They are no confident enough in it they are rolling out the operational version any day now.

The idea is to give enough warning to notify people engaged in activities they really should stop until things work themselves out. Warnings would go to railroad operators (to stop trains), bridge and tunnel operators (to temporarily stop traffic) and hospitals (to temporarily halt surgery in progress and not start surgery that may be about to start) as well as pretty much anybody else that puts their names on the distribution list.

If it actually works it will be a very good thing. If it gives a buttload of false alarms, not so much.
