GAS PRICES

By Bob Walsh

The total cost of a gallon of gasoline in California as of July 11, 2022, according to CEC analysis of OPIS and EIA data is $5.06. $1.19 of the cost is for taxes and fees. The price of a gallon of gasoline in California broken down: State Underground Storage Tank Fee $0.02, State and Local Sales Tax $0.11, Federal Excise Tax $0.18, Environmental Programs $0.33, State Excise Tax $0.54, Refinery Cost and Profit $0.64, Distribution Costs, Marketing Costs and Profits $0.65, Crude Oil Costs $2.59.

A new national survey just came out.  Including CA the average price of gas in the U.S. is a tad under $3 per gallon.  In CA the price is about $4.70 per gallon.  Gavin Newsom is still asserting that this is caused by the evil horrible oil companies ripping off citizens of CA.  Were that true wouldn't Phillips, Valero and Chevron be keeping their refineries open?  The oil companies state that they make about 5 cent or 6 cents per gallon for gas as it comes out of the pump.  Does Gavin really expect us to believe that ONLY IN CA they are making $2 per gallon and they are still leaving anyway?
