I know people on the food assistance program. About 16%
of the population of San Joaquin County are on food assistance. That is
the largest number in the formerly great state of California.
As
I type this (0830 on Friday) a couple of federal judges are considering
ordering the feds to continue the funding. It isn't 100% clear that
they can effectively do so. The FDA seems to think that it is illegal
for them to spend money not specifically allocated for this purpose. Of
course the Trump administration might decide to go ahead and fund the
program if the order is issued to do so. Or not.
It
definitely will not be fun for those effected if the program is shut
down for more than a few days. People in America shouldn't have to
wonder where their next meal is coming from.
