That is the number of new laws that will kick in in the
formerly great state of California on 01-01-2026. Among them are a law
that bans the distribution of new plastic grocery bags in grocery stores
in CA. You will still be able to use plastic bags you bring with you,
but you can't get them at the store.
I
have been using heavy duty canvas, washable bags for quite some time
now, but still, MANDATING such things is IMHO unreasonable and stupid.
Among the other bills passed into law are the following.
AB40 requires that insulin be available for a copay not to exceed $35 for a one month supply.
AB627
is an attempt for force federal government agents to stop wearing masks
or otherwise concealing their identity while doing their law
enforcement thing. It will almost certainly fail in court.
AB628
requires that landlords provide working stoves and refrigerators in
apartment buildings. IN L A it is common for landlords to NOT provide
refrigerators.
AB250
extends the time limits for filing civil actions against bad guys in
sexual assault cases. It does not apply to government entities.
SB760 requires that schools have at least one gender neutral bathroom available for the use of students.
SB243
mandates that AI companies include regular, recurring announcements on
their chatbot programs informing users that the chatbot is NOT an actual
person.
AB621 puts further restrictions on AI generated porn.
SB5224 requires that police departments indicate on reports when those reports were in part or in total prepared by AI.
AB489 bans AI chatbots from impersonating doctors, nurses or other licensed professionals.
