Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals, is the most exciting player in the National Hockey League. In 2008, he signed a thirteen-year contract extension worth $124 million. The MVP for the previous two seasons sported a scruffy beard and a head full of unruly hair – that is until his mother arrived from Russia the other day for a visit with her son.
Mama Ovechkin, who won two gold medals playing for the Soviet women's basketball team in the 1976 and 1980 Olympics, promptly took Alex aside and gave him a haircut. She also made him shave off his beard. No son of hers is going to look like a bum. Alex is one of the toughest players in the NHL and now we know where he gets his toughness from.
