USE OF THE NAZI SS LIGHTNING BOLTS ON BANNERS AND SHOULER PATCHES DOES NOT SPEAK WELL FOR THE U.S. MARINE CORPS

After I posted SS BANNER: DON’T PUNISH MARINES FOR IGNORANCE OF THE HOLOCAUST (2-13-12) on PACOVILLA Corrections blog, several of Paco’s followers agreed that the 10 Marines acted out of ignorance about the significance of the SS insignia. That elicited a passionate defense of the Marines by Ian Pickett.

Ian wrote that it was common practice for Scout Sniper units to use the SS lightning bolts on their shoulder patches and he submitted a Scout Sniper Logo from the third 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines as an example.

Here are Ian’s comments:

THE MARINES DID NOTHING WRONG, THEY WERE NOT IGNORANT AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD ALL EDUCATE YOURSELVES A LITTLE ABOUT SNIPER AND SPECIAL OPERATIONS COMMUNITIES BEFORE JUMPING TO HALF ASS CONCLUSIONS.

No offense but all you guys trying to say “they should have known better” and “they were ignorant” are about as far off base as can be.

Any Marine that ever served as a Sniper or with Snipers or with a Recon unit knows full well that the SS in that exact form is used as the symbol for “S”cout “S”nipers. It is actually incorporated in many of the individual unit’s logos and can be seen on shirts, unit patches as well as countless Marines that have it tattooed on their bodies, including, very high ranking former Snipers. I challenge everyone to google the Marine Corps Sharpshooter Badge and tell me what it resembles. Look up where we received our nickname “Devil Dog” or “Dogs of the Devil”. The simple fact is that Marines have been taking the enemies shit and making it look good for years, that’s what the hell we do.

The worst part of this whole story is the cowardly command that spoke to it as if they did not have knowledge of the Marine Corps Sniper Community wide spread use of this symbol for as long as I can remember. They should receive direct action for not backing their hard chargers up.

Additionally, I am still waiting to hear about the “outrage” people are putting forth with respect to the Rock Band “KISS” who uses the same SS symbol in their name. Incidentally, KISS’s lead singer and manager are Jewish.

And since the media tries to couple this non-event with the video that was recently released of Marines pissing on dead Taliban I will say this. No one sitting at home that has not been on the ass end of an enemy round knows what type of mindset you need in order to kill people at close range. I guess it would have been more palatable if our Marines would have simply sawed their heads off on CBS or another major network. Or maybe burned and hung their bodies from bridges. Regardless, I see only two crimes in the video of our Marines pissing on dead enemy…..1) the moron that filmed it should be donkey stomped and 2) one of the Marines appears to be dangerously dehydrated and should be admonished for not drinking enough water.

The Marines didn’t do a damn thing stupid or wrong.

War ain’t pretty, Semper FI!

Here is how I responded to Ian:

Ian, please do not misunderstand me. I served in the Pacific during the end of WWII and have always admired the Marine Corps, even though I was in the Army. I certainly did not mean to imply that those Marines were ignorant. I only meant they were ignorant of the fact that Hitler’s SS ran the Nazi death camps and I blamed that ignorance on the public schools.

As for the Marines using the SS insignia as an abbreviation for Scout Sniper, I must say that using the lightning bolts is a stupid idea. The lightning bolt insignia was used by Hitler’s elite bodyguard unit before he ever assumed power. Once he became Chancellor in 1933, the unit was expanded until it eventually became the Waffen SS as we now know it, at least those of us that do. As much as I admire the Marine Corps, choosing a symbol that is associated with the slaughter of six million Jews does not speak well for the corps, no matter how you put it.

Paco made this comment: I agree BGB. There’s a NorCal PD that has a pair of lightning bolts on their insignia and it’s hard for me NOT to see a swastika when I see lightning bolts. And, quoting Norm McDonald “The more I read about this Hitler character the more I don’t care for him.”

And this is how Paco responded to Ian: Understood, Ian. However, you must understand that the bolts will ALWAYS be associated with Nazism along with the swastika. Moreover, we all know our AB [Aryan Brotherhood] and peckerwood types are prone to tats of the same stripe. I find the patch offensive but offer no judgment of the Marines other than it would have been best had they omitted the bolts. __________

As for Ian’s comments on the use of the SS insignia by the rock band KISS, I can only say that they should know better, especially since its lead singer and manager are Jewish. Their use of the SS insignia is downright despicable! Unlike the Marines, those Jewish band members of KISS - Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick - are definitely ignorant!

EDITOR’S NOTE: ‘MPA’, another of Paco’s followers, excoriated my post. Here is what he wrote:

I am a regular on this site [PACOVILLA Corrections blog] and this might be your worst article to date. Can you please stop placing blame on everybody else and just blame them for taking a stupid picture. There are 10 grown men on that picture and you mean to tell me that not one of those men knew what the SS lightning bolts meant? Give me a break, idiots and racists come in all colors and wear different types of uniforms.

Ignorance of the Holocaust?!?! You can’t turn on the TV without not see something about WWII and just see those lightning bolts on a German WWII soldier. Maybe some of you don’t remember what you learned in high school but I graduated (CA public school) just over 10 years ago and know exactly what learned. How many black men do you see in this picture? They knew what they were doing with that flag.

“It’s because those Marines are a product of our public schools which have eliminated courses in World History, Geography and Civics in favor of courses on multiculturalism and diversity. And American History courses have been watered down and barely cover WWII, opting instead to concentrate on our mistreatment of blacks and Latinos”

When was the last time you opened a school history book? US History and European History are the main focus and to tell you the truth the text books just skim over every other topic and instead focus on the world wars and wars the US has been involved in. I actually thought you were really credible before but after this article I am starting to have my doubts. Hopefully you can place blame on this terrible article on somebody else as well.
