A group of four “housing rights activists” invaded and occupied a house in Oakland belonging to Hazel Webb, 72. They are charged with felony conspiracy, felony filing false documents and misdemeanor trespassing.
The attorney for the group is trying to get the charges dismissed, claiming the action was illegal under the legal doctrine of “adverse possession.”
The owner has not lived in the house for years but she does visit regularly and pays for the regular upkeep and maintenance of the house. It is prominently posted with NO TRESPASSING signs. The property taxes are in arears.
The group is allegedly interested in claiming “abandoned” property for homeless people to live in more or less legally.
