Joe Arpaio, the very well-known and highly controversial Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, lost his reelection bid this week. He had been the Sheriff for six terms, following a career as a federal drug agent. He was a dinosaur, politically speaking, and could change, or at least couldn't appear to change, so he died. The increasingly young and increasingly Latino electorate found Arpaio objectionable. Paul Penzone, a retired cop, is the new Sheriff.
He is facing a criminal contempt trial next month for allegedly ignoring a court order concerning claimed racial profiling. He has successfully beating off similar federal beefs, but since his star is on the decline he may have a bigger problem this time.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Fare thee well, Sheriff Joe! You fought the good fight.

Sheriff Joe will be just fine. Obama got what he wanted. I'm sure the prosecution will go away if he swears not to run for any office.
