PASSERBY SAVES FLORIDA DEPUTY BY SHOOTING BAD GUY

By Bob Walsh

At about 9:30 Monday morning a Lee County Deputy Sheriff attempted a traffic stop on I-75. Driver took off at speeds of about 100 mph. The suspect stopped on an exit ramp and then rushed the deputy's car, pulling the officer out of the car and beating the crap out of him. (Assuming this is correct there is a whole lot wrong with that picture.)

At that point a bystander rushed up and ordered the bad guy to desist. He did not and the officer started yelling "SHOOT HIM." The bystander fired three rounds into the bad guy. He died.

The deputy has been identified as Dean Bardes, a 12-year veteran of the force. The shooter has been identified only as Smith. The dead guy has not yet been publicly identified. The bad guy was armed and the shooter did have a valid carry license.

While this is a good outcome one has to wonder how the deputy got into this situation in the first place.
