A bit more information has been released on the prison situation at Smyrna, Delaware. The building where the situation took place is a maximum security unit where prisoners were being prepared to be released to medium security. Personally I find it odd that there was only one officer on duty in the 100-man unit and that enough prisoners were out of their cells at the same time to take five staff members hostage. I don't know if their security procedures suck, or they just don't follow them, or what the hell is going on.
There is still some difference of opinion as to how many staff hostages are being held but the figure I have seen most often is three. Also some prisoners, who may or may not have been hostages, have been released from the unit.
The prison is surrounded by various law enforcement staff from different agencies and armored vehicles.
EDITOR'S NOTE: When the authorities stormed the main building in control of the rebellious inmates they found the body of a hostage corrections officer.
