Joaquin Arambula, D-Fresno, was charged on Tuesday with misdemeanor child abuse. Arambula's attorney expressed "shock" that charges had actually been filed. Arambula has taken a voluntary leave of absence from the assembly until the matter is resolved.
The charges were filed after an incident on Dec 10 at their 7-year old daughters school where Arambula whacked the kid on the ass. The cops are saying that the child had signs of injury and that the injury had nothing to do with a routine, disciplinary spanking and the injury in question is not on the kid's butt. Custody of the rugrat was returned to him two days after the incident. He and his wife both continue to proclaim innocence.
