The anti-vaxxer psychopaths in CA have won some concessions on the CA legislation, in hopes of securing Governor Newsom's approval.
The NEW and IMPROVED bill allows for the guidelines from CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, a federal group. The OLD and UNIMPROVED bill allowed only for the Cal. DOH guidelines. In addition, an appeal process is being built into the legislation which was not there before.
The new bill allows medical doctors to fill out a standardized form, under penalty of perjury, to obtain a medical exemption for a rugrat. The old bill would track individual doctors who issue exemptions. The new bill does not, using the current Immunization Registry to track individual school vaccination rates. This register would, at least in theory, focus on school districts with under 95% immunization rates, which is generally considered the threshold for herd immunity.
It is anticipated the Governor Gavin will now sign the bill if it gets to his desk. which it almost certainly will.
