CCW PERMIT APPLICANT ACCIDENTALLY SHOT BY INSTRUCTOR

by Bob Walsh

On August 10 an unidentified private citizen was participating in a CCW permit training class at the Ben Clark Training Center in Riverside, CA. At the beginning of the class the students were instructed to clear their weapons. An instructor then checked the weapons and, for whatever reason, administered a "trigger pull test" to the weapons. One of the weapons was in fact NOT clear and the instructor legshot the applicant while administering the test.

The applicant was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. This "accidental discharge" (in reality a negligent discharge) is under investigation by the local SO. The injured applicant was a county employee who was attending the class as a private citizen.

Since last year state law requires that new permit applicants successfully complete a class in firearms safety, proficency and the law relating to the use of force in CA. The waiting time to get thru the pipeline in Riverside County is now about two YEARS.

A trigger pull test? What the fuck is that?

Beats the crap out of me. If he was checking for unreasonably light "hair" triggers he should be doing it with a trigger pull gauge, AFTER checking himself to make SURE the weapon is empty and not pointed at somebody.
