On Saturday there was a STRAIGHT PRIDE demonstration in Modesto, CA. The organizers tried to get a permit but were unsuccessful, allegedly due to their inability to prove insurance. So they held a demonstration anyway. Of course there was a counter-demonstration.
The demonstration had only a few dozen participants. It was cut short by the owner of the barn in which their little get-together was taking place. The demonstration then moved to the local Planned Parenthood office, which was closed at the time.
There were about 250 counter-demonstrators on Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and another 250 at Central Park in Modesto.
The Straight Pride folks asserted that they were protecting traditional values. The counter-demonstrators, who mostly shouted them down (I guess freedom is speech is not a big deal for the LGBTQ community if you disagree with them) say they were pushing "hate speech", white supremacy and racism.
Pretty normal I guess.
