A great many states (not including California now) have a felony murder rule. It is about to catch five thugs near Chicago.
A group of six attempted to bread into a car in the driveway of the home of a 75 year old man in Lake county seven days ago, about 1 a.m. The homeowner, who had a valid gun permit, confronted the young thugs in the driveway of his home. Things went sideways and a 14-year old thug ended up with a GSW to the head and his five road dogs, including Diamond C. Davis, 18, and four juveniles, are facing charges under the felony murder rule.
Four of the five, along with their wounded friend, fled in a stolen car. They dropped off the wounded thug, who died, then ran out of gas while being chased by the cops. They were arrested.
When the man went out into the driveway and ordered the thugs to leave one of them was stupid enough to go after the old man instead. The cops found a large toad sticker at the scene which did not belong to the homeowner. The homeowner is not facing any charges.
Six less thugs on the street, one permanently. Not a bad outcome all things considered.

Lotsa holes in this one Bob.
Burglary, in California is a non violent crime. And how do they know that young man was actually gonna assault that privileged old rich white man with the knife? How do they even know which one of the six dropped it?
I see these charges being dropped and a big pay out coming to these poor victimized children.
