Some fairly interesting statistics have just been released regarding "gun crime" in Alameda County, CA. during 2018.
There were 862 recovered firearms used in crimes in Alameda County last year. About half were NOT registered in California and only about 8% were legally registered to the person who was in possession of the gun at the time of the crime.
A total of 372 firearms were reported as either lost or stolen in that time period in the county.
There were 9,430 guns reported legally sold by licensed dealers in the county last year.
It was not possible to determine whether or not 432 guns recovered in relation to crimes were in fact lost or stolen. Almost four guns a day are reported either lost or stolen (mysteriously disappeared is I believe the insurance term) in California. In addition about 13,500 guns are reported as known to have been stolen in the state every year.)
In 2016, 456 crimes involving handguns were prosecuted in Alameda County. Additional prosecutions involved rifles (26), shotguns (22) and unspecified "assault weapons" (10).
