Marsha Edwards, 58, is suspected of killing herself and her two children Erin Edwards, 20, and Chris Edwards, 24, after their bodies were in their upscale Atlanta townhouse Wednesday evening, cops say.
Police conducted a welfare check on the family at 6pm Wednesday and made the chilling discovery of the bodies suffering gunshot wounds inside. Cobb County police say Marsha died of 'an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound'.
Marsha was divorced from the children's father Dr. Christopher Edwards, a prominent orthopedic surgeon in Atlanta.
Just two days before the brutal killings on Monday August 19, Marsha Edwards' posted on social media enjoying a vacation with her daughter Erin in Italy, sharing snaps from Vatican City, Rome and Venice.
The day of the killings Marsha posted to Instagram saying: 'I could not have asked for better children'.
Police have not released any further information about the apparent double murder-suicide and the investigation is ongoing.
The Edwards lived in a wealthy gated townhouse community called Vinings Parc East and the family was well known in the city and were close family friends with Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. Following the shocking deaths,
Dr. Christopher's family spokesperson released a statement saying: 'Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made.'
