An eight-year-old girl from Missouri has become the 14th child to be shot dead in St Louis this summer after she was gunned down shortly after a mass brawl broke out at a high school football game.
Jurnee Thompson was shot by an unidentified suspect a block away from Slodan High School in St. Louis on Friday, August 24.
Jurnee's family was attending a football jamboree when a large fight broke out.
The reason for the fight has not been revealed, but KMOV 4 reports that it involved around 30 people.
Police arrived to the scene around 8pm and were able to eventually control the crowd, according to Fox 2 Now.
Around 30 minutes later, shots were fired outside Harold's Chop Suey restaurant in the Academy neighborhood.
A former firefighter and veteran Mark Vasquez reportedly ran over to Thompson after she was shot and attempted to keep her alive.
Vasquez tearfully told KMOV 4: 'First, I tried to see if she was responsive...found it in her abdomen. You could see the life leaving her.'
Thompson was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Thompson's father, who wished to stay anonymous, told KSDK: 'Jurnee was like a young woman with an old soul.'
He continued: 'It was one of the biggest fears of my life and now I'm living it as a reality.'
Four others, including relatives of Thompson, were also injured in the shooting.
Those injured include two 16-year-old boys and a 64-year-old woman.
Mayor Lyda Krewson announced during a Saturday press conference that a reward of $25,000 will be offered to anyone who has information that will lead to the arrest of the killer.
Thompson untimely death makes her one of 14 children killed by gun violence, according to KMOV 4.
Thompson's father is crushed.
He told KSDK: 'Why would you take my baby away from me?'

They should turn the investigation over to BLM, Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton. That would get results. I'll bet some white guy did it. He was probably hired by Donald Trump. It might have even BEEN Donald Trump. I think Elizabeth Warren should investigate too. She used to be a woman of color, she should be able to relate. She could probably use the $25k anywqy.
