The people who know about such things are now saying that it is about a 50% chance that, when the scaffolding is taken down, what is left of the structure may collapse into the vaults.
The roof is an important structural part of these old gothic stone buildings. There is now no roof. When the scaffolding is removed, which will be a job in itself do to fire damage, there is a very real possibility what is left of the structure will simply collapse.
That being said, it could be rebuilt from the ground up. There are excellent laser measured and computer generated three-dimensional plans. It could be 100% redone from the ground up to be what is essentially a totally authentic copy of the original, probably with indoor plumbing snuck in somehow. Would it be the same? I don't know. One way or the other it will rise again.
