Dr. Gavin Ashenden was formerly the chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II. He has just announced that he is leaving the Church of England and converting to Catholicism, because he is grossed out by the political correctness that is enveloping the COE.
The straw that broke the camel's back was a reading of the Quran during an Anglican service.
Dr. Ashenden criticized Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, for rolling over and endorsing guidelines for primary schools, which moved very strongly towards gender neutrality back in 1917. The COE has, by any reasonable standards, been moving further and further away from its religious roots and becoming more and more a social/secular force having little if anything to do with traditional religion.
Remember that the Church of England is an established religion in England and that the monarch is the head of the church and the Defender of the Faith.
Thus far the Queen has not commented.
Back several years ago, when the COE started ordaining women priests, a fair number of Anglican priests, including those who were married and had children, moved over to the Catholic church.
