ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

by Bob Walsh

In 1890, the Massacre at Wounded Knee South Dakota took place. The U. S. Cavalry attacked a Sioux camp and killed somewhere between 125 and 300 people, mostly women and children.

In 1845 Texas entered the Union. I often wonder how many of the current residents regret it.

In 1170 four knights rid Henry II of the meddlesome priest, Archbishop Thomas Becket. Henry allegedly later regretted having him murdered and repented.

Texas did the right thing to join the union. But is messed up in 1861 when against the advice of Governor Sam Houston joined the Confederacy. Texas paid dearly for many years to come.
