Two days ago the U. S. started human testing of a possible Covid-19 vaccine. This is being done on an ultra-fast track without prior animal testing. This is unique as far as I know and could, with some luck and a tail win, give us a functional and safe vaccine by the end of the year.
Also they are doing some experimenting with existing anti-viral drugs. At least one of them, in a very small trial (less than 100 total) was 100% effective in killing off the virus in the host in five days.
All of this isn't wonderful, but it is at least potentially wonderful.
