Some guns stores in some states have had to limit purchases to keep from being wiped out. People are lining up to the counter like Irishmen at the pub on St. Patrick's Day. Unlike the People's Republic of California a lot of states have instant purchase verification, assuming the computers stay up.
A lot of this buying is ammo. There are federal legal problems with restricting gun sales beyond federal guidelines but these do not cover ammo. The mayor of New Orleans just signed an executive order to give him the power to halt ammunition sales, as did at least one mayor in Illinois. Ammo sales overall are reported up 70% in the last two weeks.

The local Academy store sold out of popular handgun ammo last weekend as did Cabelas.
