In a horrifying incident in Richmond, a resident was arrested on suspicion of murdering and cannibalizing his own grandmother, per The Mercury News.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Dwayne Wallick, 37, was caught in the act of eating Ruby Wallick, his 90-year-old grandmother, on Monday.

At around 2 p.m., Richmond officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man standing over a woman’s body on the 1200 block of Club Court, a residential area near the Hilltop Plaza. Upon entering the home, where both Dwayne and Ruby are reported to live, the officers said they found the suspect cannibalizing the woman.

Police said after Wallick failed to stop, they used a stun gun and, after a struggle, he was taken into custody. The police currently have no clear motivation for Wallick's alleged actions. They are reportedly investigating whether drugs played a role in the incident, as the suspect remains in hospital due to unspecified injuries sustained in the course of the arrest.

The case is expected to be turned over to the Contra Costa County district attorney to weight if murder charges will be filed against Wallick.
