The
famous hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, aka Ian Holm, has passed away at the age
of 88. Bilbo was a well-known adventurer and traveler, burglar and
author. In his Ian Holm persona he was a Shaksperean actor (who grew up
at a mental hospital where his father was in charge) who had, among
other things, played the voice of Frodo Baggins in a BBC radio
adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings.
EDITOR'S NOTE: A much more notable passing was that of 103-yeat old Vera Lynn on Thursday, The British singer entertained the troops during WW2 with ballads like “We’ll Meet Again,” and “The White Cliffs of Dover.” In post-war 1952, her “Auf Wiedersehen Sweetheart” became the first record by an English artist to top the American Billboard charts. In 1975, the Queen made Lynn a Dame of the British Empire.
In my younger days, I thoroughly enjoyed Lynn's beautiful songs.
