Waukesha suspect Darrell Brooks is a convicted sex offender

Darrell Brooks, 39, was convicted in Nevada in 2006 of felony statutory seduction with a 15-year-old girl who later gave birth to his child. Brooks is an amateur rapper whose lyrics include ‘fuck the pigs’ and ‘fuck Donald Trump.’

 

The suspect in the deadly Christmas parade attack in Waukesha, Wisconsin, is a convicted sex offender who fathered a child with a 15-year-old girl, records show.

Darrell Brooks, 39, was convicted in 2006 for having consensual sex with a teenage girl in Nevada who later gave birth to his child, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. 

He pleaded guilty and was placed on probation.

The suspect was busted in 2016 for failing to register as a sex offender. He was released on bail but failed to show up to court, leading to a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Brooks is listed as non-compliant due to failure to register or update his personal information such as address and employer, according to records from the Nevada Sex Offender Registry.

He was arrested in 2016, but jumped bail and has had a warrant out for his arrest since. Law enforcement believed him to be in Wisconsin, but could not confirm it.

Brooks was arrested and charged with five counts of intentional homicide in Sunday’s deadly attack, which killed five people injured at least 48 more. He allegedly drove his SUV into a Christmas parade in the city while fleeing another crime.

He had been set free earlier this month after making a $1,000 bail on a domestic violence charge from Nov. 2. Brooks allegedly punched the mother of his child and “ran her over” with his car in a parking lot fight.

The Milwaukee District Attorney’s Office admitted Monday the bail was “inappropriately low” given his criminal history.

Brooks has another pending case in Milwaukee from last July, in which he’s charged with reckless endangerment and illegal possession of a firearm, according to court documents. He had allegedly fired a gun during an argument with his nephew.

His bail was reduced from $10,000 to $7,500, but he remained in custody with his trial scheduled to begin in February. When his demand for a speedy trial could not be met, the case was adjourned and his bail lowered to $500, which he posted on Feb. 21.
