LAST WORDS OF NAZI U-BOAT COMMANDER AND CREW

Shed Light on the Presence of Nazi Submarines in Argentina

 

On this day in 1942, U-692 left its pen in in La Rochelle, France to sink allied supply ships in the North Atlantic.

Three days later the U-692 was spotted by a British frigate ans although the U-boat was able to submerge, it was severely damaged by a depth charge and began to fill with water.  

 

On March 3, 1943, the skipper of the German U-boat 43 ordered torpedoes fired at what he thought was an Allied freighter. (German Federal Archive)


As the water got up to his head, the U-boat commander shouted:

Heil Hitler! Auf Wiedersehen mein Fuhrer.

Only a few of the crew was still alive, but they shouted back:

Auf Wiedersehen ... Fuck der Fuhrer!
