HAH, THE GOP STRONGLY SUPPORTED CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM BECAUSE THEY BELIEVED FEWER CRIMINALS IN PRISON WOULD SAVE LOTSA MONEY

It’s time to fight Soros with Soros.

The Republican Party needs a concerted effort to combat the “tragic” influence left-wing billionaire George Soros has had on crime and quality of life in the Big Apple and other major cities, GOP insiders told The Post.

“We need a Republican George Soros,” demanded conservative commentator and Manhattan Republican Jackie Toboroff, a former City Council candidate from Soho, calling the progressive activist “a ghoul haunting our legal institutions, bringing chaos to our southern border and anarchy to our streets.”

The perfect counter to Soros should have more than just deep pockets, said Toboroff. They’ll also need conservative street cred, social media, messaging and campaign-finance savvy, and a willingness to battle deep in the political trenches.

A Republican wish list of potential candidates includes tycoons Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Ronald Lauder, Rebekah Mercer, John Catsimatidis and Miriam Adelson – who, with her late husband Sheldon, donated a nation-leading $218 million to “solidly Republican/conservative” candidates, parties and PACs during the 2020 election cycle, according to OpenSecrets.org.

Thiel left his longtime position on the board of Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta earlier this week to advocate for pro-Trump policies. He declined to comment to The Post when asked if taking on Soros is part of his plan.

Former President Trump himself would the perfect man for the job, said Staten Island Republican Mary Reilly.

“Trump can bring the money, he can gather the crowds,” she said. “I don’t know if another (Trump) election would be the right thing for all of us. But he can play a massive role here.”

Soros, 91, has spent tens of millions funding progressive candidates in district attorney races across the country amid movements to abolish bail and defund the police. He also funds grant-making organizations such as the Foundation to Promote Open Society to dole out cash to progressive organizations and candidates.

“Soros invested heavily in 26 different DA races around the country and now he got 26 woke-culture DAs elected,” said Catsimatidis, a conservative supermarket mogul and WABC 770 radio host. “It’s created a shake-up in our cities.”

Taking up financial arms against Soros “is a distinct possibility,” he said. “But we have to straighten out the streets of New York City first. If we can win big here, other cities will fall into place.”

Catsimatidis credits Soros for “a sophisticated” campaign-finance system that has successfully funded big-city district attorneys supporting woke agendas, such as the elimination of mass incarceration.

Soros-funded winners include DAs Chesa Boudin in San Francisco, Kim Foxx in Cook County, Ill., Larry Krasner in Philadelphia, Marylin Mosby in Baltimore and now Alvin Bragg in Manhattan, who took office Jan. 1.

San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore have all been beset by record crime waves since the Soros-backed candidates became top prosecutors. New York has also been ravaged by crime since Bragg took office. Police data show that crime is up in 72 of 77 precincts across the city so far this year, including in 21 of 22 precinct’s in Bragg’s Manhattan.

The district attorney issued a now-infamous soft-on-crime memo his first day in office last month, ordering Manhattan prosecutors to avoid seeking prison sentences for long list of offenses.

Bragg has backpedaled on some of his positions, issuing a new memo on Feb. 4 calling for commercial robberies committed with knives, and holding up a store or other business with a firearm, to once again be prosecuted as felonies. He also said this week that he’ll consider harsher penalties for thieves in the wake of a Post expose showing a man brazenly swiping steaks from a Trader Joe’s in broad daylight.

Soros has “effectively destroyed the criminal justice system in America,” former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said last month.
