The formerly great state of
California is now the first in the nation to restrict the use of
"artistic expression" in criminal court cases.
The
Restoring Artistic Protection Act (RAP Act) severely limits the use of
things such as rap song lyrics in criminal proceedings because this
practice "unfairly" discriminates against Black, Latino and lower-class
White "youths" who are the ones who tend to be rappers. The theme of
these songs is often violence and criminality and it is possible to make
a case (or at least USED to be possible) that lyrics of some of these
songs are in fact confessions to specific crimes or general criminal
activity.
Just thought
you would want to know. If you are a violent, dangerous criminal and
like to brag about it in public you should move to California.
