Shameless Audacity: Ilhan Omar Accuses Donald Trump of Antisemitism!
The junior Democratic lawmaker is best known to many for her frequent anti-Israel and antisemitic outbursts.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) appearing on The Mehdi Hasan Show on MSNBC, Oct. 15, 2022.
With Donald Trump being hailed by some Jewish groups as the greatest friend Israel ever had in the White House, leading Democrats are again trying to paint him as an unrepentant antisemite.
Perhaps the former president isn’t helping himself by openly calling out American Jews for failing to adequately appreciate and defend the Jewish state.
His remarks, characteristically lacking in tact, have been twisted and presented even by the Biden administration as an example of base antisemitism.
Columnist Ruthie Blum explained why this is not only untrue, but outright deceitful: See: Donald Trump’s Justified Critique of American Jews
Truly hypocritical, however, was the response of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a junior Democratic lawmaker and proud member of the anti-Israel “Squad” in the US House of Representatives.
In an interview this week on MSNBC’s “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” Omar stated:
“Antisemitism is on the rise and all of us have a responsibility to condemn it. To continue to have someone, a former president with his platform, continuously speaking to his white supremist [sic] base in such a language—it’s very scary and dangerous and we have to condemn it.”
The quote was posted to an MSNBC account on Twitter, where is was quickly lambasted by those calling out the “audacity” and “hypocrisy” of Omar, who herself has a propensity for condemning the Jewish state and using antisemitic slurs.
For example, in February 2019, she suggested that Israel’s supporters in America had been bought off, a clear reference to the antisemitic trope that Jews control the world’s finances.
Show host Mehdi Hasan later responded on Twitter by
trying to distance himself from Omar’s remarks, noting that she wasn’t
brought on the show to talk about antisemitism.
