Explaining as best as she can the Ukraine War to a college political science class
The vast majority of students do much, much better in a
traditional learning environment. That is a FACT. Those students have
not been well served by the school lockdowns.
The
overall ACT scores were recently released. They are at their lowest
point since 1991. The composite average score was 19.8 out of 36. That
is the first time the average was below 20 in 31 years. A total of 42%
of the students taking the test did not hit ANY of the benchmarks for
college preparedness in English, reading, math or science. Last year
that figure was 38%.
Granted
the scores have been steadily declining for years. Also granted that a
lot of people now do NOT see college as the way to go and the test is
aimed at college readiness. Also a lot of colleges no longer require an
ACT or SAT in order to apply. So the sample is both shrinking and
skewing.
That being said both the direction of the curve and the steepness of the decline should be concerning.
