ITS ENEMIES ARE GLEEFULLY ANTICIPATING ISRAEL'S IMPLOSION

Is Israel Playing Into the Hands of Its Enemies?

Israel seems to be imploding, and our enemies are watching with delight. Will we pull ourselves together in time?

Some Israelis refuse to do military service, others defend the country.

The Arab media follows domestic political developments in Israel very closely. “With friends like these, who needs enemies?” left- and right-wing Israelis say of one another. In the midst of such a fierce internal feud, we are making things easy on our enemies. We do the work for them and signal just how divided we are. This was really highlighted when IDF officers and soldiers threatened to refuse to do military service, even in the event of an emergency. What a dream for those who hate Israel.

The whole country seems to be on edge like never before since the latest change of government and amidst the ongoing dispute over judicial reform. Everyone is warning that the worst could happen, and our Arab enemies know how to exploit this apprehension. They don’t even need to invent narratives. Arab media is quoting word-for-word what Israeli politicians and military figures are saying in their dire assessments of the situation. At present, things look very encouraging for Israel’s most dedicated foes. The impression given to them by the Israeli media is that the IDF is on the verge of mutiny or collapse. Every evening reports of fighter pilots or officers from the cyber intelligence Unit 8200 and other special forces threatening to refuse orders. Former chiefs of staff and other high-ranking generals directly or indirectly calling for insubordination.

A few examples of how the Arab and Iranian media are happily reporting on the situation in Israel:

“Calling for disobedience harms Israeli security,” said Israel Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
“In just a few weeks we will plunge into a civil war,” warned the former head of the Israeli security service Shin Bet, Yuval Diskin.
“There will be mutiny in the ranks of reserve soldiers and officers as soon as the right-wing coup is completed,” underlined former Minister of Internal Security Omer Bar Lev.
“We are warning of a real threat to Israel’s security,” senior officers of Unit 8200 have said. This is a cyber unit of the Israel Defense Forces that is responsible for the security of the cyber world.
Israel’s left-liberal daily Haaretz: “We are facing the most dangerous reservist crisis since the 1973 Yom Kippur War.”

The official Iranian news agency Fars: “The rebellion in the Zionist army continues. 180 Air Force officers and soldiers have announced that they will not join the reserves.”

Headline on the website of the Iranian news agency Tasnim: “Israel’s ex-general Amos Yadlin says Hezbollah doesn’t need precision missiles. We’re breaking down on our own.”

You buy stocks when they’re cheap and you attack the enemy when they’re weak. That is why Israel must be doubly vigilant at this time. In the meantime, I want to believe that all the bluster of refusing orders notwithstanding, in the event of a war Israelis will put aside their differences and fight shoulder-to-shoulder. If not, we are doomed to repeat the darker chapters of Jewish history when chaos and internal strife defeated us from within.
