Both Visa and Master card have just announced that they
are not, after all, going to be tracking and flagging firearms purchases
as a "public safety" measure.
It
seems that the legislatures in a fair number of red states have filed
bills that are well on their way into becoming law which would fine
credit card companies that do business in their states for using these
codes.
Discover and American Express have also announced that they are "pausing" their move into the coding of gun purchases.
Of
course it it distinctly possible that whack job governors in states
like New York and California will try to figure out some way to penalize
credit card companies if they DON'T do this.
It could get interesting.
