Washington State will likely join nine other states in banning the sale of AR-15 rifles, as well as other “assault weapons,” after the state House passed an “assault weapons” sales ban by a vote of 56-42.

Gov. Jay Inslee praised the bill’s passage on Wednesday, tweeting, “WA does not and will not accept gun violence as normal.”

“Banning the sale of assault weapons, our bill to enact training requirements and a wait period, and the bill to improve accountability of manufacturers and retailers will save lives. #waleg,” he added.

The legislation defines “assault weapon” as “any of the following specific firearms regardless of which company produced and manufactured” the gun:

The bill bans the sale, manufacture and importation of the aforementioned “assault weapons.” Exceptions were included in the bill for law enforcement and military personnel.

Earlier this month, Inslee called the “assault weapons” ban a “momentous step forward for Washington state.”

“Time and again we’ve seen the carnage these weapons allow people to unleash on communities. Time and again we’ve watched the NRA and politicians defend, normalize and even celebrate these weapons. But now the time is here when the majority’s will prevails and we put the lives of our children first,” he added in a statement.

In addition to banning “assault weapons,” lawmakers in Washington State also passed legislation imposing a 10-day waiting period on gun purchases and a firearms safety training requirement to buy a firearm.

While lawmakers in 10 states work to restrict Second Amendment rights, 26 other states have enacted “constitutional carry” laws, which allow Americans to carry concealed guns without a permit.

Nebraska is the latest state to pass constitutional carry legislation, which Gov. Jim Pillen has said he will sign into law.

MORE STUPID FROM WASHINGTON STATE

By Bob Walsh

A total ban on the sale of pretty much any semi-automatic rifle in Washington state is about to clear the legislature and is headed for the Governor's desk where he is expect to sign it.  It takes effect immediately upon passage.

The law bans more than 50 specific gun models, including AR and AK rifles.  The law does not attempt to confiscate those rifles already in legal possession (yet) and of course exempts government purchases.  WA also has new laws mandating a 10-day waiting period for gun purchase, mandating safety training and holding gunmakers liable for "negligent sales" of their products.

The Republican minority in the state points out (correctly) that the proposal violates both the state and federal constitution.  They predict it will end up in court instantly upon it being signed.

I guess I'm cool with my Mini-14 ranch rifle. Does the exact same thing as the banned weapons only IMHO better.
