MOVING THE STATE LINE

By Bob Walsh

A Greater Idaho movement banner in eastern Oregon (Courtest of Greater Idaho)

A total of 13 counties in the eastern part of Oregon have voted to leave Oregon and become part of Idaho.

This is not impossible.  In fact small chunks of states have been moved around from time to time with no big deal.  Two whole STATES have been created that way, though none within the last 150 years.

The eastern, more rural part of Oregon is MUCH more conservative than the west coastal part of the state.  It is largely agricultural and their cultural values clash with the liberal idiots who run the state who outnumber the "real people" in the rest of the state.  Kind of like the same way that LA and the Bay Area outnumber the rest of California.

Moving territory from one state to the other is much less problematic than creating a whole new state.  Both states still have to agree but since it creates no new senators nor does it diddle overly much with the House of Representatives.  I am confident that Idaho would have no problem with the move.  I am less sure how the Oregon bureaucracy feels about it.

It will be interesting to watch.
