NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENTS AND PUBLIC BUSINESS

By Bob Walsh

Over the last six or seven years a HUGE building rehab has been going on in Sacramento.  That happens.  Buildings need work.  The odd thing is that virtually everybody involved in it is required to sign an NDA.  Over 2,000 of them in total.

The project was originally budgeted at about $440 million.  It is now about $1.2 billion.  Virtually all of the operational decisions are being made by paid staffers and not by members of the legislature themselves.  The money is going for things like having CA granite shipped to Italy to be made into bricks and then shipped back to CA.

This stinks.  Some of the local media have been making a big deal about this the last couple of months.  Maybe once the elections are over and we find out how many Democrat-Socialists are safely ensconced in office somebody with some balls with start looking hard at this.  I am not claiming that the money is being wasted or poorly spent, but when you make a big deal about trying to keep expenditure of public funds confidential I am inclined to be highly skeptical.
